IoT/Software Product Cybersecurity Researcher (m/f/d)

Role & Responsibilities

As a researcher, you'll help define and implement those solutions. Your work will turn emerging regulatory requirements into practical, automated tools that make it easier for manufacturers to build, document, test, and maintain secure products.

You'll have a direct impact on hundreds of customers throughout their product lifecycle, from design and implementation to security testing and ongoing compliance. You'll also help advance the broader IoT industry by making cybersecurity compliance more accessible, efficient, and scalable. Put simply: at Zealience, your work will contribute to making millions of products sold in the EU secure and compliant.

What you'll do

• Research and develop innovative features that automate IoT/software product cybersecurity compliance
• Translate complex regulations and security requirements into practical, user-focused solutions
• Work closely with customers and engineers to validate ideas, identify opportunities, and continuously improve Z-CMS
• Create clear, educational materials that help customers understand and apply product cybersecurity best practices
• Contribute to sales and marketing initiatives by sharing technical insights
• Take on a broad range of responsibilities and help shape the direction of an ambitious startup

Requirements

• Master's degree in computer science with focus on cybersecurity
• Strong understanding of IoT cybersecurity principles: network protocol security, secure boot, firmware updates, and security assessments
• Solid grasp of core computer science and cybersecurity concepts: networking, Linux-based OS, cryptography, authentication & authorization, application security, and defense-in-depth
• Proficiency in JavaScript or Python, scripting (Bash), version control (Git), and familiarity with virtualization technologies
• Practical experience with firmware analyzers, traffic analyzers, and static/dynamic code analyzers
• Must be located within commutable distance of Frankfurt am Main (relocation support possible, visa support not possible)

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD degree (or nearing graduation) in IoT cybersecurity or a related field
• Professional experience as an IoT cybersecurity tester or product security engineer
• Track record in IoT cybersecurity — publications, conference presentations, CVE disclosures, patents, or open-source contributions
• Experience in customer-facing roles: training delivery, security advisory services
• Knowledge of IoT security standards: EN 18031, IEC 62443-4-2, ETSI EN 303 645
